My first time to Paula's Cafe was a delight! Good food, good atmosphere and the most adorable, retro waitresses! Bonus: free pocket constitutions are available!

Popped in for a quick breakfast in the middle of the Great Lakes Relay race. Service was fast and the food was excellent ! I had the Dave's way breakfast. It was a heart attack on a platter but right up my alley. Loved it. If I'm ever in Indian River again I'll go back.

Saw this place on my way home from Mackinac Island, I normally do not stop at diners near travel stops, but i am really glad I did. The outside is nothing remarkable, but the inside is decorated completely with tea pots very cute. My wife loved it. This is a definitely a place were the locals come to always a good sign. For breakfast, I ordered the chicken fried steak which was one of the best, pI had their sauce is a little more brown than most white sausage gravies. The meat was real tender and fried to perfection. Their sausages are made in house and it would not surprise if they got the eggs from a local farm, very light and fluffy. My wife ordered the eggs Benedict she said it was one of the best she had the hollandaise sauce tasted great. The portions are huge there was enough to split with my son. The service was wonderful, just like you would expect from a mom and pop diner, definitely will make a pit stop here to come have breakfast on my way to Mackinac.

Super solid breakfast. I was here 2.5 years ago and I remember it being a tasty breakfast. We went back to kick off a ski weekend bachelor party with the guys. The food was awesome and reasonably priced. I had the Eggs Benny AND the Biscuits and gravy (to the raised eyebrows of the server.... "2 breakfasts!"). I put it all down. All of us did. It was about as good as breakfast gets. The service was on point. There's a bunch of little teapots all over the place and other knick knacks. Usually thus scares me because they are so hard to keep dust free... but this place is really clean. 6 of us (ordering 7 breakfasts and drinks) with tip was just over $60. If this place was anywhere near where I live, it would be my goto spot. But, I'll just pop in every couple years when I make it that far north

This place is so cute inside. The host & owner is a hardworking vet. Food and service was awesome. My family had breakfast. I would definitely come back here to try the lunch too.

The nicest owners, and the most AMAZING food! Even this California girl was very very very impressed! I had the all in one scramble and enjoyed the leftovers for days!

Ordered a sandwich for lunch and asked for a condiment not to be on it. Very nice waitress took it back to Paula and we saw Paula kind on snap at the waitress for making a mistake. Instead of doing the proper thing, which would be to remake the whole sandwich, the condiment was simply wiped off with a knife, leaving reminents on the sandwich which we did not want. The food took a good while to come out. However, very nice waitresses and a nice host (assumed this was Paula's husband).

A teapot palace and a breakfast that can't be beat. Paula's Cafe in Indian River! This is a "must stop" place for us. So far we have only been in for breakfast (they only serve breakfast and lunch) on our trips up North or when we start our morning return trip back "Down-State". Pot Roast Hash... Raspberry Pancakes... Asparagus Omelet... are a few of the tasty breakfast options I have tried to date. We have also taken home a couple massive Cinnamon Rolls for the kids. The waitresses are among those that we have always tipped well. Very professional no matter which lady we are lucky enough to have. If you take care of us and feed us well... we'll take care of you! Count on our patronage Paula's Cafe!

Raspberry pancake! Enormous, and delicious! What a wonderful breakfast after coming down from the UP over the Bridge. Definitely a find. The staff is so very friendly, and it was a nice little sideline to hear about the owner's commitment to dog rescue. Just the kind of down home small town experience everyone craves.

I found this place by searching Yelp. We were leaving Topinabee and we needed something fast, good and cheap for breakfast. We called our order in and when we went to pick up our order there was about 15 people waiting outside. This was a good sign! The decor is nice and warm with 500 +teapots on display according to the host. We ordered egg muffin sandwiches to eat while we drive. Yum. This place is really good, we'll go again next time we're in town!

Very friendly, just off 75. Better choice than Gaylord for travelers. Our table sampled raspberry pancakes, corned beef hash, polish omlette, grits, grilled bisquits, northern omelette and asparagus omelette. Pleased with all dishes. Happiest with raspberry pancake. Service was very friendly.

Great breakfast. Large portion, fair prices. You won't believe how fast the service is. Traverse The Magazine has exposed the best menu option - raspberry pancakes. Enjoy.

Wonderful wait staff, food, and prices. I had corned beef hash and my wife had raspberry pancakes. Both were far better than we were hoping for and generously portioned for the price. Pancakes were so flavorful and packed with raspberries that no syrup was needed.

Awesome little local breakfast restaurant . Very good food. Prices are fair. Their pancakes are just crazy big. Traverse magazine voted best raspberry pancakes in the state. Paula, the owner has over 700 teapots in her restaurant. I would recommend the biscuits and gravy!!

So many small family owned places go out of business up against big chains, and this place is the epitome of why. It's clean and small and the hostess was friendly. We waited 15 minutes for a table, which isn't too terrible. When we finally got to order, a few minutes later the waitress came back and told us they weren't sure what happened to their batch of pancake batter, but they could whip up a new one in a few minutes if we wanted to wait. Okay, we'll wait a little more. A full 10 minutes later, she comes back to tell us the flour they have is wrong and they're not serving anymore pancakes. So, strangely, we have to entirely reorder, instead of just subbing in a piece of French toast on each meal. She has our original order in front of her, but keeps guessing at what we each wanted as we're reordering. After an hour and 15 minutes, we finally receive our food, which was decent, and the only reason I added a star. But we all got bacon instead of the sausage links that we ordered, and not well done bacon at that. When we pointed it out to the waitress, she went to grab our entire plates to take them back. Why? So you can spit in it? Are you going to re-serve the bacon that's been at our table to someone else? The right thing to do would've been to bring out the sausage links. Not wanting to wait any more (with two small children at our table) we said "Forget it, we'll make due". When she brings the bill, the Kraft singles that were added to the eggs were $1.20 each, kids meals didn't include their milk (so $4 for a single slice of French toast?) and the waitress says "I know this hasn't been your best experience but we're always like this." What?! I mention the terrible service at checkout, and the hostess says to me "You should come back when we're less busy." I will starve before I pay to eat here again. The decent food was not worth the hassle.

"Can I have an Iced Tea while I wait for a table?" No they said, you have to wait until you get assigned a waitress or else the billing will get messed up. "Can I add Spinach to the my omelette?" No, we cannot add or subtract anything from the menu. "Can we pay for breakfast with two credit cards?" No, we can't figure it out, please use one. Food was good but we had to sit outside, move the tables together ourselves and then we were asked to move the tables back the way they were when we left. We followed all directions and had a decent breakfast. Eggs were good and the frozen potatoes were cooked well. I liked the canned gravy over the potatoes. I really did. Cmon other non relatives, review this place and let's get a proper rating.

Amazing find thanks to fellow Yelpers. We both ordered the chicken fried steak. OMG-heavenly although I blew my low carb diet. Comes with yummy sausage gravy on top with fried taters and eggs and grilled biscuits. The diner is immaculate and displays their collection of over 800 teapots. We met the owner who is quite a nice guy and the waitresses are cute and dressed in retro diner style with hair up in bows. They close by 1pm so get there early!

This is a great breakfast place. We've been here many times in the past couple years. Our favorites are the blueberry and raspberry pancakes. A side of Plath's bacon is a must. I have also ordered the Eggs Benedict several times and have never been disappointed. Cooked perfectly every time. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. The location is great right next to the I-75 exit and along the Gaylord/Mackinac rail trail. The place is packed with snowmobilers in the winter and vacationers in the summer.

2 stars is a review of I've had better. The raspberry pancakes are Ok, but I would not go out of my way to get them. There were not many raspberries in the pancake actually. A restaurant local to me makes a combination raspberry and blueberry pancake with pecans that is much better. The eggs and bacon I had were acceptable. The coffee was not very good, but at least they put real cream on the table. It was odd to get there an hour after they had opened and find the door locked. We had to walk around and motion at the windows to get someone to come and open the door. The bathroom was clean so bonus for that. I guess after reading all of the 5 star reviews I was expecting to really have something special and that was just not the case.

We always try to eat at Paula's when we travel north. The service is fast and friendly, and the decor is adorable. The entire place is decorated with teapots. The food is excellent - whatever you order, be sure it includes grilled biscuits, because they are amazing. I'm not a fan of all of the NRA propaganda in the entry way, but that's a personal preference.

Wow, wow, wow! Generous portions of great homemade breakfast foods. Good service at this busy lil diner. We'll be back. Thank you
